Jazz singer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born February 20 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson and the former Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy was the first of six children. Her father was a fan of music and loved to play records with his children at home. It had a huge influence in her early years. When she was young she was already able to establish an idea of her identity and what she hoped to accomplish. Church choirs helped develop her talent. Her first album was with the Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, who she performed with between 1956 and 1958. Nancy's first Dot Records recording was made when she was a member of the Carolyn Club Big Band. Cannonball addederley advised her to relocate in New York for her career and, in 1959, she moved in The Big Town. Adderley's Agent heard her at The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she then signed her contract. within a month after arriving in New York City. At first, she focused on rhythm and blues, under Adderley's influence she moved away from R&B and began to embrace music from jazz and torch.
