Nancy Wilson (jazz singer) was born to Olden Wilson, an ironworker in Chillicothe on the 20th of February, 1937. Her mother, Lillian Ryan worked as housekeeper. Nancy was the sixth of seven children. The father of Nancy was a music lover and played records with his children at home. It had a huge influence upon her growing up. When she was four, Nancy knew that she wanted to be a musician. She discovered her talent for music through participating in choirs of the church. In high school the singer began appearing often on Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when won the TV talent show. Nancy started recording with Dot Records in 1956, when she was part of the band. Cannonball advised her to relocate in New York and go to The Big Town to further her career. Her agent heard her speak at The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she signed. Within one month after her arrival at New York City. It was a contract with Capitol Records in 1960. In the era of Adderley, Wilson began concentrating on R&B but soon shifted to jazz and torch music.
