Nancy Wilson, a jazz musician and a three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Ohio, Chillicothe on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker who had worked for a long period as housekeeper. Nancy Wilson was the youngest baby of six. Nancy loved listening to the records of her father and his enthusiasm for music. By the age of four, Nancy knew that she would like to become a musician. She developed her musical talent through singing in choirs at church. After winning a talent competition on television around the age of 15, she began to appear regularly on Skyline Melodies, while still at high school. At nightclubs, she began working at age 15. Nancy completed high school at 17 and attended Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a whole year. She then dropped out to pursue a job as a professional musician. Her debut album was released in 1956 by the Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. They was on tour with her between 1956 and 1958. As part of the group, Nancy recorded her first album on Dot Records. Cannonball Adderley urged her to go for a trip to New York in order to increase her fame. She visited The Big Town, New York in the year 1959. Adderley's Agent heard her in The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she then signed her contract. Within one month after her arrival at New York City. The singer made her debut in 1960 by releasing a single after he obtained the contract with Capitol Records. Guess who? Capitol published five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. She began by focusing on R&B and then, with Adderley's influence, she began to embrace jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley formed a band in 1962. This helped push her up in the chart. By 1963 she had the biggest success by releasing Tell Me the Truth. Following that year, she was invited to perform at New York's Coconut Grove, the most famous night club in America.
