Nancy Wilson is a Grammy Award winner in jazz. Her birth date was 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio, to Olden Wilson, who was employed at an ironworks and Lillian Ryan, a former domestic employee. Nancy is the youngest out of 6 siblings. Nancy was inspired by her father's taste in music and the records that were played in her home. When she was four, Nancy was aware that she would like to become an accomplished musician. She developed her musical talent through singing in church choirs. When she won a talent contest in a television show at the age of 15, she began to regularly appear in Skyline Melodies, while still in high school. When she was 15, Nancy began her career in night clubs. Nancy was a high school graduate aged 17 and enrolled in the Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a whole year. Then she dropped out to pursue a career as a professional musician. Her debut album was released in 1956 with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. The band performed with her throughout 1956 and 1957. Nancy's first Dot Records recording was made while she was in the big band of the Carolyn Club. Cannonball adderley advised her to go to New York in order to increase her fame. She visited The Big Town, New York in 1959. Within a short time she had been singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club which is located at Boston Road near The Bronx. Adderley's representative heard her sing and immediately signed her. A contract was formalized with Capitol Records in the year 1960. That year, she made her debut with. Guess Who Saw Today. The records she released were also successful. Capitol issued 5 Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Under Adderley Wilson's direction, she began to focus on R&B but soon shifted to jazz and torch music. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley as well as their 1962 partnership helped her reach the top. Her breakthrough song Tell Me the Truth by 1963. It was this performance that led her to a spot at the New York Coconut Grove in 1963, America's most popular nightclub.
